Used For
Alphagan (brimonidine tartarate) Eye Drops are indicated for the lowering of intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
Directions
The standard recommended dose Alphagan Eye Drops is one drop in the affected eye(s) three times daily, with each dose being approximately 8 hours apart from the other.
How It Works
Use of Alphagan is contraindicated in patients receiving monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor therapy. It should also be used with caution when administered to patients suffering from severe cardiovascular disease. Alphagan Eye Drops might lead to fatigue and / or drowsiness in certain patients. Hence it is advisable that patients who are starting on Alphagan treatment and who engage in heavy or hazardous activities understand their reaction to the medicine and also be ready for a potential reduction in their mental awareness.
Side Effects
Like all other medications, Alphagan also has its side effects which include allergic conjunctivitis, conjunctival hyperemia, eye pruritus, burning sensation, conjunctival folliculosis, hypertension, oral dryness, visual disturbance, allergic reaction, asthenia, blepharitis, bronchitis, conjunctival edema, conjunctival hemorrhage, conjunctivitis, cough, dizziness, dyspepsia, dyspnea, epiphora, eye discharge, eye dryness, eye irritation, eye pain, eyelid edema, eyelid erythema, flu syndrome, follicular conjunctivitis, foreign body sensation, headache, pharyngitis, photophobia, rash, rhinitis, sinus infection, sinusitis, stinging, superficial punctate keratopathy, visual field defect, vitreous floaters, and worsened visual acuity. It is advisable to consult a doctor immediately if any of the above listed side effects get aggravated or persist over an extended period.
Other Info
Alphagan Eye Drops may be used concomitantly with other topical ophthalmic drug products to lower intraocular pressure. In case of usage of more than one topical opthalmic product, it is necessary that the products be administered at least 5 minutes apart from each other.
