Used For
Neupro (rotigotine patch) is used for treatment of early-stage Parkinson´s disease.
Directions
Neupro, which goes under the medical name rotigotine, is a newly developed dopamine receptor-agonist delivered through a continuous transdermal delivery system, a patch.
One patch administers rotigotine to the body for 24 hours and is applied once a day to ensure continuous supply of rotigotine.
How It Works
Parkinson’s disease is a disorder of the central nervous system. The estimated 4 million patients worldwide suffering from this disease suffers from a lack of dopamine, a messenger substance in the central nervous system, which is responsible for the co-ordination of movement. The lack of dopamine causes the patient to be unable to control their movements reliably. Neupro attempts to compensate for this lack of dopamine.
Side Effects
Side effects including sleep disturbances, hallucinations, dizziness and gastrointestinal upset.
Other Info
Neupro has been part of multinational clinical studies with patients suffering from early stages of Parkinson’s desease. The studies, completed in 2003, treated more than 1500 patients in 15 individual trials.
