Used For
Acomplia (Rimonabant) is used in the treatment of obesity and related conditions. Please note a prescription is required for this product.
Directions
Use as directed by doctor. However, doses consist of one tablet taken orally every day.
How It Works
Acomplia acts by selectively blocking CB1 receptors found in the brain and in peripheral organs important in glucose and lipid (or fat) metabolism, including adipose tissue, the liver, gastrointestinal tract and muscle.
Acomplia switches off the same brain circuits that make people hungry when they smoke cannabis.
Side Effects
Side effects in the trial on Acomplia in obesity were vomiting and nausea.
Other Info
Acomplia should only be used with patients who have a BMI over 30 or a BMI over 27 with associated risk factors.
Do not take while on anti-depressive medication. Acomplia should be cautiously in patients with moderate renal impairment, epilepsy, patients using potent inhibitors and rare hereditary disorders and galactose intolerance. In addition those over 75 should take care when using the Acomplia.
Those who should not take Acomplia include those with severe renal impairment, uncontrolled psychological disorders, a cardiovascular event in the last six months and patients who are breastfeeding or pregnant.
